CBT
CBT

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
CBT is a structured, goal-oriented therapeutic approach that helps individuals identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns influencing their emotions and behaviours.

Through collaborative exploration, we identify negative thought and behavioural patterns and develop practical strategies to challenge and restructure these cognitions and behaviours, fostering healthier emotional responses and inner wellbeing.
CBT is recommended under NICE guidelines (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) as an effective treatment for a variety of psychological difficulties. As an evidence-based therapy, it is recognised for its clinical effectiveness even within the parameters of short-term treatment. Having evolved continuously with emerging scientific findings to enhance therapeutic outcomes, CBT has become an umbrella term encompassing scientifically validated, evidence-based therapeutic approaches.

CBT Can Help With:

  • Anxiety disorders

    • Phobias

    • Social Anxiety

    • Health Anxiety

    • Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

    • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

    • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

EMDR
EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful therapeutic approach designed to help individuals heal from emotional distress caused by difficult life experiences.

EMDR facilitates the brain's processing of traumatic memories through bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements) whilst the individual briefly focuses on the distressing memory. This approach enables the brain to reprocess traumatic memories in an adaptive manner and resume its natural recovery capacity, thereby reducing the emotional impact of distressing memories. EMDR has demonstrated robust evidence of effectiveness for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and can address a range of psychological difficulties stemming from traumatic experiences.

EMDR Can Help With:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Childhood trauma

  • Anxiety and phobias associated with traumatic memories

  • Grief and loss

  • Disturbing memories

  • Performance anxiety

What To Expect
What To Expect

Initial Consultation

Your journey begins with a comprehensive assessment where we discuss your concerns, history and goals. This session helps us understand the nature of your concerns and needs, enabling us to determine the most appropriate therapeutic approach.

Treatment Planning

Together, we develop a personalised treatment plan outlining therapeutic goals and approaches. We value collaboration and actively invite your input throughout this process. The first two sessions encompass the initial consultation and treatment planning.

Therapy Sessions

Regular 50-minute sessions provide a safe space for exploration and recovery. Some therapeutic work may require 80-minute sessions, which will be discussed with you in advance. The number of sessions varies according to individual needs, with regular progress reviews. Therapy sessions typically occur on a weekly basis.

With Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), we establish homework collaboratively for you to practise between sessions. This homework is an essential part of CBT. However, such between-session tasks are not required with Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Completion

As you approach your therapeutic goals, we focus on consolidating gains and learning strategies to maintain progress after therapy concludes. We recommend monthly follow-up sessions after completion to support your continued wellbeing.

FAQ
Frquently Asked Questions

How do I know which therapy is right for me?

During your initial consultation, your therapist will help determine which approach might be most beneficial based on your specific concerns and goals.

How long does therapy typically last?

Treatment length varies depending on individual circumstances.
Some people benefit from short-term therapy (6-12 sessions), whilst others may need longer-term support. CBT offers a clear structure with a beginning, middle and end of therapy, with a set number of sessions which will be discussed in the first two sessions. However, EMDR is typically open-ended until traumatic memories are processed and you feel better.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of our practice and we take it very seriously. We strictly follow the code of conduct of our governing bodies, including BABCP, and comply with The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for data protection.

However, please bear in mind that there are rare occasions where safety concerns for yourself or others may override confidentiality, requiring us to consult relevant professionals. We will always discuss this with you should this happen. These details will be clearly stipulated in the therapy contract once you begin therapy with us. If you have any concerns or questions about this, please feel free to speak to us.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, we provide online therapy sessions for clients who prefer virtual appointments or cannot attend in person.
However, we recommend face-to-face sessions for the first two sessions.
Additionally, there are particular cases that may require face-to-face sessions only, which we will discuss in advance.

How can I confirm my appointment?

Payment must be made in advance when booking a session. Receipts or invoices are available on request. Your booking will not be confirmed until payment has been received. Once payment is made, you will receive confirmation by email or text message.

Can I cancel my appointment?

Yes you can. Please note that cancellations should always be made at least 48 hours before the appointment; otherwise, a late fee of 50% of the appointment cost will be due. Please be aware that most insurance companies will not cover cancellation charges.Appointments can be amended or cancelled by email.

Please note that whilst Angela Sen Clinic may send out confirmation emails and reminder texts for your convenience, the responsibility for appointment attendance remains with the patient.

You can find out more about the cancellation policy in your therapy agreement. If you are unsure about the policy, please confirm with us.
